試験の英語表現
まず初めに「試験」を表現する英単語で代表的なのは以下の２つです。

それでは早速、意味の違いとそれぞれの使い方を見ていきましょう。
exam
exam：テスト、試験
“Exam”は“examination”を略した表現で、学校や塾で学生が受ける試験を表現したいときに使える英単語です。
複数形は“exams”となります。中間テストや期末テストなど、日本語でテストという表現を使っているので使いたくなりますが英語では異なるので注意しましょう。
midterm exam：中間テスト
Examに「中間」という意味を持つ“midterm”を付けると「中間テスト」という意味になります。もちろん、“examination”を使って表現することも可能です。
I was too busy with committee activities to study for the midterm exam.
委員会の活動が忙しくて、中間テストの勉強ができませんでした。
I studied for my midterm exam at a friend's house and had a great time studying today.

final exam：期末テスト
Examに「最後の」という意味を持つ“final”を付けると「期末テスト」という意味になります。中間テスト同様に、“examination”を使って表現することも可能です。

今回の期末テストは辞書を持参することを許されました。
The teacher said he would tell the students in class tomorrow what they will be tested on for this final exam.

bar examination：司法試験
法曹界という意味を持つ“bar”を用いて「司法試験」という意味になります。“The judicial exam”という表現に言い換えることも可能です。

司法試験の会場から離れている場所に住んでいるので、明日は会場近くのホテルに泊まることに決めました。

証明や資格を表す“certificate”や“qualification”を用いて「検定試験」や「資格試験」を表現することができます。

資格試験を合格するコツは、計画的に勉強を進めることであると先生は言ってました。
I started studying for the qualification exam because I needed a score I could put on my resume for job hunting.

entrance examination：入学試験
入口を表す“entrance”を用いて「入学試験」を表現することができます。
I have to study a lot this year, because next year, I have to take a college entrance examination.
来年は大学の入学試験があるので、今年はたくさん勉強しなくてはいけません。
His father drove him to and from the university entrance examinations.
大学の入学試験の試験会場まで、父親が車で送迎してくれました。

test
test：テスト、試験、検査
「検査」という意味が強いのがtestですが、能力や技能などを測る試験を表現することも可能です。例えば、英検は“English proficiency test”と言われたりします。

明日は学校で英語の発音テストがあるので、とても緊張しています。
