まずは「no more than」と「no less than」について日本語の意味を見ていきましょう。

no more than～：ただ～するだけ、たった～、わずかに～
no less than～：～もある、～に劣らず、～と同様に

これら２つの表現は、このような例文で使用されます。

no more than～
I slept no more than three hours last night.
私はたった3時間しか寝ていません。
no less than～

直訳すると「私は３時間よりも多くない時間寝ました。」

この文には、「３時間よりもう少しだけ長く寝ていたかった・・・」という気持ちが隠されているのです！つまり言い換えると、「３時間しか睡眠時間を取れなくてガッカリしている」ということです。

1. no more than 3 に３は含む

例えば、以下の例文を見てみてください。

2. 量を表現するときのみ使う

時間を伝えたいときは、no later thanを使うのが一般的です。

You have to complete this homework no later than 7p.m..
あなたはこの宿題を午後7時までに終わらせなければいけません。

「no less than」は日本語で「～もある」「～に劣らず」「～と同様に」という意味合いです。量や数が想像以上に大きいことに対する驚きを表現します。

I paid no less than 10,000 yen.
私は10,000円も払いました。

直訳すると「私は10,000円よりも少なくないお金を払いました。」

この文には、「10,000円よりも少ないと思っていた」という本人の予測が隠されているのです！つまり言い換えると、「10,000円もしないと思っていたのに、こんなに支払い額が高くて驚き」ということです。

My wallet has not more than 500 yen.
私の財布には500円もあります。
She has no less than 100 dollars.
彼女は100ドルも持っています。
This book cost no less than 3,000 yen.
