自己啓発 を英語で教えて!

・self-improvement
自己(self)を向上する(improve)、と書いて自己啓発という意味となります。

例：I bought a book about self-improvement.
自己啓発本を買いました。

・self-development
こちらは自己（self）を発展させる（develop）と書いて自己啓発という意味を持たせたフレーズです。

例：I will spend this summer vacation on self-development.
この夏休みは自己啓発に費やすつもりです。

self-の後に何かを付けて熟語(自〇〇)にするケースがあり、下記でいくつか紹介します。

self-esteem　自尊心
self-confidence 自信
self-portrait 自画像
self-control 自制

自家製 を英語で教えて!

・homemade/home-made
手作り、自家製はhomemade/home-madeと表現します。

例：Please try this bread. It is homemade.
このパンを食べてみて、自家製なの。

レストランなどで、自家製ワインなどと記載する際には、
housemade/house-madeと表現する場合があります。

handmadeという単語もあり、これは手作り、という意味です。

例：This bag is handmade.
このバッグは手作りです。

耳を揃える を英語で教えて!

・pay back (～) all at once
pay back (～) all at once で、（～）を一度に返す、耳を揃えて返す、という意味となります。

例：I will pay back the money I borrowed all at once in this month.
借りたお金は今月中に耳を揃えて返すよ。

・pay off (～) in full
こちらも同様に、（～）を一度に返す、耳を揃えて返す、という意味となります。

例：It will be impossible to pay off all debt in full this month.
すべての負債を今月中に返すのは不可能です。

耳を揃えるという慣用句は日本由来のもので、英語にはそのような表現はありません。

耳に入れる を英語で教えて!

・He does not listen to me.
シンプルに、私の話を聞こうとしない、という表現です。

例：My son is going through a rebellious phase. He does not listen to me at all.
息子が反抗期に突入している。私の話を全く聞こうとしない。

※rebellious phase で反抗期です。

・He does not take my advice.
何かアドバイスをしているのに、それを受け入れようとしない場合にはこの表現です。

例：I have been telling him to take a nap before driving, but he does not take my advice.
運転前に仮眠をとるように言っているのに、彼は私のいう事を聞こうとしない。

時代考証 を英語で教えて!

・check the historical authenticity
historical authenticityで歴史的に正確である事、の意味となります。

例：Buddhism had not arrived in Japan during that era. Have you done the historical authenticity?
仏教はまだその時代には日本に到来していないはずです。時代考証をしましたか？

・investigate the historical background
上記で歴史的背景を調査する、という言い回しとなります。

例：We need to write a report based on a further investigation of the historical background.
このレポートはさらなる歴史的背景の調査の後したためます。
