促す を英語で教えて！

「促す」は英語では urge や encourage などで表現することができます。

I urged them to come to the venue early, but they still haven't come after all.
（私は早めに会場に来るように、彼等に促しましたが、彼等結局まだ来てませんね。）

He's really fickle and moody, so if he seems unmotivated, you need to encourage him.
（彼は本当に気まぐれで気分屋なので、やる気がないようだったら、こちらから促す必要があります。）

「憎まれっ子世にはばかる」は英語では Ill weeds grow apace という表現があるようです。
「憎まれっ子」は ill weeds（雑草）になっていて、"雑草はよく育つ"というニュアンスになります。

※また the devil looks after his own という表現もたり、こちらも「憎まれっ子世に憚る」に近い意味で使えると思います。
