不在かな？ を英語で教えて!

Question

宅配便をお届けに上がったときに誰も出なかったので、「不在かな？」と言いたいです。

1. I wonder if you are absent.
「～かな」は I wonder if もしくは I wonder whether という表現が使えます。また absent には「欠席、不在」という意味があります。
このことから、「不在かな」ということを表現することができます。

例）
I am ringing your home bell but nobody answers. So I wonder if you are absent.
家のベルを鳴らしているけど、誰もでない。不在かな。

2. I wonder whether you are out.
you are out で「外にいる」という意味があるので、「不在だ」という意味になります。
このことから、「不在かな」ということを表現できます。

例）
I wonder whether you are out now.
今不在かな。

「不在かな？(誰かいるの？)」

「Is anybody here?」で「誰かここにいますか？」というニュアンスを含みます。誰かいると思ったけど、誰もいないの？と聞いている感じを想像して見てください。

2. Nobody’s here?
「不在かな？」

「Nobody’s here?」も、「あれ、誰もいないの？」といった感じで誰かいると思っていたのに不意打ちをつかれた感じを出せる表現です。

例文：
Hello? Is anybody here?
こんにちは〜！不在ですか？

Wow, it’s quiet. Nobody’s here?
わあ、静かだな。不在かな？

1. Maybe the customer is not at home.
「お客様は、不在かな。」

maybeで、「〜かもしれない、〜かな」という意味を表せます。
不確かな事に対する表現は、maybe, mightなどを使います。
customerは、「顧客、客」ですが、日本語でもカスタマーという言葉は一般的に使わるようになりました。be+at homeで「家にいる」be not at homeで「不在だ」と言えます。

No one answered the door.「誰も出でない」　実際に出てこなかったとは、「no one came out」ですが、
answerで「応答がない」で出てこないと言えます。

2. I wonder if the customer is home or not.
「お客様がいるのか、不在かな。」

wonderで、「〜かしら」と言い表せます。
「いるのか、いないのか、どうなのかな」と言いたい時には、このように言えます。
