てっきり○○だと思った を英語で教えて!

自分が考えていた事、思った事が実は違っていた時に「てっきり～だと思った」と言いますが、これは英語で何と言うのですか？

「I was under the impression that...」は、「私は...という認識だった」「私は...と理解していました」という意味で、ある事柄について自分が持っていた誤解や予想外の事態に気づいた時に使います。ネイティブスピーカーは会議での誤解の解消や日常会話での誤解を認める場合などに使用します。例えば、「I was under the impression that the meeting was tomorrow, not today」（私は会議が明日だと思っていました、今日ではなく）。

I was certain that the meeting was tomorrow, not today.
私はてっきり会議は明日だと思っていた、今日ではなく。

I had it in my head that our meeting was tomorrow, not today.
私はてっきり明日が会議だと思っていたんだ、今日じゃなくて。

"I was certain that..."は自分が何かについて完全に確信しているときに使います。例えば、「I was certain that I locked the door」（私はドアに鍵をかけたことを確信していた）。

とてもたくさん表現方法があります。

■assume that ～　～だと思い込む

I assumed that you wanted to meet her.
君は彼女に会いたいんだと思い込んでいたよ。

でもちがったね。会いたくなかったんだね。

■under the impression that ～　～だと思い込む、勘違いする

I was under the impression that you wanted to meet her.

■misunderstood that ～　～だと誤解していた

I totally misunderstood that you wanted to meet her.

I completely thought that ~ に付けたしさせて頂きます。少しニュアンスを変えて違う表現を紹介します。
① I assumed that ~
assumeの基本的な意味は
動詞--(証拠はないが)(…を)事実だとする当然のことと思う、思いこむ、決めてかかる
なのでI assume that ~ で勝手に～と思い込むの意味になります。

例文
Ｉassumed that you didn't like natto.
てっきり納豆が好きじゃないと思ってたよ。

②I was under the impression that ~
impressionの基本的な意味は
名詞---印象、感銘、(漠然とした)感じ、気持ち
なのでbe under the impression=その印象の下にいる＝思い込む、てっきり～と思うになります。
be under the wrong impression で勘違いするという意味になります。

例文
I was under the impression that she was a native English speaker.
彼女はネイティブの英語話者かと思ってたよ。

③I ｗas sure that ~
sure の基本的な意味は
形容詞（副詞）----確信して、確かで、(…を)確信して、(…に)自信を持って
主語+be動詞+sure+(that)で〈人が〉〈…ということを〉確信して　という意味になります。
上の２つと違いこちらは確信しているという場面で使えます。
同じ様な表現で　I'm positive that ~があります。
