「言い訳」は英語でexcuseといいます。excuseには「口実」「釈明」「理由」などの意味もあります。
「言い訳をする」はmake an excuseで表すことができます。

例文：
Don't make excuses.
言い訳しないで。

She always makes excuses for being late to work.
彼女はいつも仕事に遅れる言い訳をしている。

He made several excuses for being late for the exam.
彼は試験に遅れた理由としていくつか言い訳をした。
