正方形 を英語で教えて!

「正方形」は英語では square と表現することができます。

Please calculate the area of this square.
（この正方形の面積を計算しなさい。）
※please は丁寧な表現ではありますが、「しなさい」という命令形のニュアンスがあります。

You should make this design square.
（このデザインは正方形にした方がいいよ。）

※ちなみに square はスラングで「堅苦しくてつまらない人」というような意味で使われることがあります。

近似値 を英語で教えて!

「近似値」は英語では approximation や approximate value などで表現することができます。

I learned about approximations in math class, so I understand the basics.
（近似値に関しては、数学の授業で習ったので、基礎的なことは分かります。）

Please calculate the approximate value of ○○.
（○○の近似値を計算しなさい。）

※ちなみに、副詞形の approximately も「おおよそ」「約」という意味でよく使われます。

関数 を英語で教えて!

「関数」は英語では function や mathematical scheme などで表現することができます。

I didn't originally hate math, but I started hating it because functions were difficult.
（私は元々数学が嫌いではなかったが、関数が難しいせいで嫌いになった。）

I don't have enough basic knowledge of the mathematical scheme, so I'm going to study.
（関数の基礎知識が足りないので勉強します。）

※ちなみに「二次関数」の場合は quadratic function と表現できます。

アルゴリズム を英語で教えて!

「アルゴリズム」は英語でも、そのまま algorithm と表現することができます。
※また arithmetic でも近い意味の「算法」「算術」といった意味を表せます。

（このシステムをプログラミングするためのアルゴリズムを考えます。）

I think that processing speed can be significantly increased by changing the arithmetic.
（計算の方法を変えれば処理速度が格段に速くなると思う。）

「代数（学）」は英語では algebra や abstract algebra（抽象代数学） などで表現することができます。

I think I learned algebra when I was in junior high school, but I don't remember well about it.
（中学生の時に代数は習ったと思うけど、よく覚えていません。）

Abstract algebra is so important, so be sure to review it..
（代数学はとても重要ですので、必ず復習してください。）

※ちなみに abstract は「抽象的な」「観念的な」という意味がありますが、abstract music（抽象的な音楽）や abstract hiphop（抽象的なヒップホップ）のようにも使われます。
