隔たりがある を英語で教えて!

知識は十分だが実力が伴わないので、「隔たりがある」と言いたいです。

「There is a gap between us.」は、二人の間に「心の距離」や「考え方のズレ」があることを表すフレーズです。

恋人同士で気持ちがすれ違っている時や、友人との意見の対立、世代間の価値観の違いなど、物理的ではなく精神的な隔たりを感じる時に使えます。ちょっと寂しいニュアンスですね。

I know the theory, but there's a gap between that and my actual ability.

ちなみに、「We're not on the same wavelength.」は「私たち、波長が合わないね」という感じです。考え方や感じ方が違って話が噛み合わない時や、冗談が通じない時なんかに使えます。相手を直接的に責めるニュアンスは薄く、ちょっとしたすれ違いをユーモラスに表現するのに便利なフレーズですよ。
