〜しないと始まらない を英語で教えて!

友人と野球観戦に行くので、「ルールを知らないと始まらないね、ちょっと勉強してから行こう」と言いたいです。

日本語でいう「始まらない」をそのまま "doesn't start" "cannot begin" のように表現しても意味は通じるでしょうが、おすすめしません。
- You cannot begin unless you learn the rules.← おすすめしません
- Before anything else, you need to know the rules, let's go over them quickly before we go.
何よりまずルールを知らなきゃね、 行く前にちょっと勉強しよう。
"before anything else" は、「何よりもまず」といった意味です。
- You cannot enjoy the game unless you know the rules.
ルールを知らなきゃ楽しめないよ。
"unless~" は、「~じゃないかぎり」といった意味です。
よく耳にする表現で、
"first things first" というのがあります。これは、「まずやるべきことをやる」といった意味です。単体で冒頭に使うことが多い表現です:
- OK, first things first, let's review what we learnt in the last session.
OK、まずは、前回習ったことを復習しましょう。
