the best：最高の、一番の
good の最上級が best です。(変化は good-better-best です。)
the best + 名詞 で「１番の～」→「最高の～」と解釈します。
例)
I feel sad but I thought she was the best woman.
最高の彼女だと思ったのに、裏切られて悲しい。

反対に「最悪の」は worst を使います。(変化は bad-worse-worst です。)
