「イメージと違った」は、different from what I imagined、もしくは different from what I expected と言います。
different from～「～と違う」、what I imagined 「想像していたもの、こと」、what I expected 「予想していたもの、こと」

マッチングアプリは、matching app とも言いますが、海外では dating app と言うのが主流です。

The person I met on a dating app was different from what I imagined.
マッチングアプリで知り合った人は、イメージと違いました。

images=イメージ (名詞)

It was different from what I thought of.
「イメージと違う」
thought of=思ったのと
different=違う

I never expected the images to be like that.
「イメージと違った」
expected=予想していた
never=想像していなかった
つまり、自分の思っていたイメージと違うという意味になります。
