英語では、1年を2つに分けるとき、「上期」は first half、「下期」は second half と言います。

「First half」と「second half」は、「前半」と「後半」を意味します。スポーツの試合や映画、舞台など時間を2つに分けた時、イベントの進行状況や途中経過を説明するのに使われます。また、年度や月などの期間を半分に分けて表現するのにも用いられます。例えば、「今年の前半（first half of this year）」や「試合の後半（second half of the game）」などです。

The first half of the year is called the first semester and the second half is called the second semester in English.
一年の前半は英語でfirst semester、後半はsecond semesterと呼ばれます。

上期は4月～9月の6ヶ月、下期は10月から翌年3月までの6ヶ月です。

一年を半分に分けた上期と下期は「First half」「Second half」と表現します。「前半」「後半」という意味でもあります。ビジネスの書面では「H1」「H2」というように略して表記される事が多いです。

ちなみに、四半期はQuarterで表現します。
First quarter「第1四半期」、Second quarter「第2四半期」というように表します。

例えば、「2024年度上期」は「The first half of the fiscal year 2024.」や「The first half of the calendar year 2024」で表す事ができます。

上記の説明は会計年度についての上期、下期ですが、学校などの学期について言う場合、二学期制の「前期」、「後期」を表す場合にはFirst semester、Second semesterと言います。
