前者と後者 を英語で教えて!

前者か後者かどちらがいい？

「前者」は「former」、「後者」は「latter」となります。
「former」は「前の」という意味でもよく使われますね。

例）

私はこの会社の以前の社長をよく知っている。

また、「latter」はよくご存知の「late=遅い」から派生した言葉です。
「遅い」のですから「後者」と言う意味になるのは納得ですね。

２. The first or the second
一つ目か二つ目か

選択肢が二つなら、前者、後者を数字で言うことも可能ですね。
「first=1番目」か「second＝2番目」かと聞くことで、前者か後者かと聞くのと同じになりますので、
「former」「latter」が出てこなかったら、より簡単な「first」「second」を使って言ってみましょう。
