事なきを得る を英語で教えて!

イディオムです。「get by」で「通り抜ける、(…で)何とかやっていく、(人の)目を逃れる、うまくだます、(出来はよくないが)何とか通用する、まあまあ認められる」という意味が有ります。「事なきを得る」とニュアンスが近いと思います。

ピッチャーゴロ を英語で教えて!

「ゴロ」は「grounder」と言います。ピッチャーへのゴロなので「grounder to the pitcher」となりますが、ピッチャーへ戻ってくるという意味で「comebacker」ともいうそうです。

ご質問をアレンジして「昨日の試合の打席はピッチャーゴロや三振ばかりだった」として訳すると以下が適訳と考えます。

硬球 を英語で教えて!

「hardball」としたいところですが、こういうとスチールなどでできた球を指す「硬球」と誤解されてしまいそうです。

研究社の新和英中辞典での「硬球」の英訳では「a regulation ball」とされていますのでご紹介します。「公認ボール」という意味になりますが、競技団体で定めたもので、「ソフトボール」と対比して「硬球」と称されているものと考えます。

A regulation ball authorized by International Federation of Speedball (FISB) must be used. The ball is hollow, elliptical in shape and made of rubber.
