「議員」と一口に言っても、国によって呼ばれ方は様々です。日本では一般的に「a member of the Diet」や、「Dietman」が使われます。「Dietman」は男性的なイメージが強くなってしまうので、基本的には性別を問わない「a member of the Diet」をおすすめします。

また「衆議院議員」= a member of the House of Representatives「参議院議員」= a member of the House of Councillors　のように、議員がどちらの院に属しているのかによってより詳しく説明することも可能です。
