試験後にわかりやすいテキストを見つけたので、「その本を読んでたら、もっと理解できたのに」と言いたいです。

その本を読んでいたらもっとよく理解していたのに。

・I would have〈過去分詞〉if I had〈過去分詞〉：もし（あのとき）…していれば~だったのに
「過去のある時点でもし別のことをしていたら違った現実になっていただろう」という仮定を表現します。
If I had failed the exam, I would have spent completely different life in a university.
もし試験に落ちていたら、大学で全く異なる生活を送っていただろう。

2. I should have read the book so that I could understand better.
もっとよく理解するために、その本を読んでおくべきだった。

・I should have〈過去分詞〉：（過去に）~していればよかった、するべきだった
過去における後悔を表す表現です。

I should have learned another language in university.
大学で別の言語を学んでおけばよかった。

・so that S can ~：S が~できるように、するために
例文では過去形 could を使っています。
