「He/She was saying…」用於傳達對方過去說過的話。它利用了過去進行式，帶有當時正在進行的語氣，也常常表示這句話距離現在並沒有過很久。舉例來說．在朋友間對話中，就可以用這個句型表示「他剛剛打電話給我…」的類似情境。

He mentioned that the person in charge would respond tomorrow.
他提到負責人明天會回覆。

He was talking about responding to your inquiry tomorrow.
他當時有說明天會回覆您的詢問。

「He/She mentioned...」表示「他/她提到...」，通常用於對方只對於某事提到一或兩次。例如："He mentioned his new job."（他提到了他的新工作）。

另一方面，「He/She was talking about...」有「他/她當時在談論...」的語氣，表示對方針對某事多次或詳細地談論。例如："She was talking about her vacation plans."（她在談論她的休假計畫）。
