・the following right/left

「right」是「右」，「left」是「左」，「following」作為形容詞時有「接續～」、「下一個～」、「所提及的～」的意思。加上「the」之後，會增加「緊接著、緊鄰的」這種語感（這次的情境下，就是「緊接右邊的」、「緊接左邊的」這種語感）。

順帶一提，「the following day（隔天）」、「the following week（隔週）」這些表達方式也很常用，建議可以一起記起來喔。
