Current value指的是某個時間點上物品或資產的價值，而Fair Market Value則是指某個物品或資產在自由市場上交易時的合理價格。母語人士在日常想知道物品目前價格時會用current value，在有出售資產計畫或計算稅金等需要知道合理市場價格時，則會用fair market value來做區分。
