3. "catch snippets" 「捕捉到一些片段」也可以用來表達「碰巧聽到」。

"catch" 「抓住；捕獲」
"snippet" 「斷片；一條、一則（新聞、消息或談話）」

I was walking in the school hallway when I caught snippets of a friend’s conversation. They were talking about me.
