1. I'm sorry I can't go. Something (important) came up.：
「抱歉，我臨時有事，所以不能去。」：
something 是指某件事情，
而 come up 意思是發生或出現。如果某件重要的事情，可以加上 important。

2. I have a thing to do now so I can't go to the movie. ：「我臨時有事，所以不能去看電影。」：
這裡的 a thing 和上面的 something 意思一樣，a thing to do＝有某件事情要做。
