miss (錯過、失去)＋each other（彼此），也就是「錯過彼此」的意思。

例句

"Your dad had just left for the station. Didn’t you see him on the way?" " I think we missed each other."
「爸爸剛剛去車站了，你在路上有遇到他嗎？」「我們好像錯過彼此了呢。」

cross paths 是指和某人「偶然或意外地相遇」的表達方式，但用於否定句時就有「錯過」的意思，也就是「錯過彼此」。

例句
I was supposed to meet my friend here, but we must have failed to cross paths.
本來應該在這裡和朋友見面的，但好像錯過了。
