①always

第一個表示「總是」的單字是「always」。這可能是大多數學習英語的人想到的詞。

「always」的「al」部分對應於「all」，代表一切，像「alright」和「already」一樣。如果我們把它視為「all」和「ways」的組合，會更容易發音。

說到「總是」的頻率，如果「never」為0%，「always」則為100%。代表這種情況經常發生。

另外，請記住一點，「always」通常出現在一般動詞之前或be動詞之後。

I always check Twitter first after waking up. I think that’s a bad habit.
我總是在起床後先查看推特。我認為這是一個壞習慣。

She is always energetic and cheerful. I’ve never seen her being depressed.
她總是充滿活力和開朗。我從來沒看過她沮喪的樣子。

He always works until late at night. I think he is a workaholic.

as always

「as always」意思是「像往常一樣」。用來表達與平常相同的動作或情況。

②all the time

「all the time」指的是「一直」。是表示連續的時間，或是頻繁到看起來像是連續的細微差別。

基本上，「all the time」是放在句尾。

That man takes pictures here all the time. I’m wondering if he lives around here.
那個人總是在這裡拍照。我很好奇他是否住在附近。

She studies English all the time. She is going to take a TOEIC test soon.
她一直在讀英語。她馬上要參加多益考試了。

Why do you look at your smartphone all the time? You’re definitely addicted to it.
為什麼你一直看手機？你一定是上癮了。

還有一個表達「at all times」具有類似的含義。在中文裡是「任何時候」的意思，所以有點難區分，但「at all times」是在特定的、固定的情況下使用的短語。

Even when the seat belt sign is turned off, please keep your seat belt fastened at all times.
即使安全帶指示燈熄滅，也要隨時繫上安全帶。

③every time

「every time」也可以翻譯成「總是」，但表達方式更類似於「每次」。

請注意，「every time」通常後面跟著主詞+動詞，表示「主詞每次都～」。

Every time I go to the cafe, it’s crowded for some reason. I should find another one.
我每次去那間咖啡廳，那裡總是因為某些原因而擠滿人潮。我應該再找別間。

Every time I drink beer, I get a headache. Should I stop drinking beer?

④whenever

「whenever」代表「隨時」。我們可以使用「whenever 主詞＋動詞」的形式來表示「主詞隨時～」。

You can come to my house whenever you want. I’ve already prepared food and drinks for the party.
你可以隨時來我家。我已經為聚會準備了食物和飲料。

I play guitar whenever I have some free time. How about you? What do you like to do in your free time?
我一有空就彈吉他。你呢？你有空時喜歡做什麼？

Whenever I’m in that kind of situation, I feel really uncomfortable.
每次遇到這種情況，我都會覺得很不舒服。

⑤usually

「usually」直譯為「通常」，因此同樣可以表達為「總是」。

不過它的頻率比「always」要低一點。雖然每個人對頻率的感覺不同，但如果「always」是100%，「usually」大約是80-90%，這樣想就很容易理解了！

I usually get up at 6 and take a walk for about 30 minutes. I’m definitely a morning person.
我通常6點起床，散步大約30分鐘。我絕對是一個早起的人。

I usually go to work on Saturdays but I’m off next Saturday, so I’m going to take a short trip to Hokkaido.

as usual

「as usual」代表「跟往常一樣」。跟上面介紹的「as always」類似，是表達平常的行為或狀態。

不過，「as usual」的頻率比「as always」低。

另外，請記住，「as usual」可用於積極的含義，也能用於消極的含義。

The train was very crowded as usual. I wish I could work from home.
火車跟往常一樣擁擠。我真希望能在家工作。

He is super busy as usual. I’m wondering if he gets enough sleep because he always looks sleepy.
