學習英文時，有許多規則要記，真是辛苦對吧？
特別是比較級和最高級，不僅單字會變化，還需要根據比較對象更換介系詞，是個有點難度的文法。
這次我們將聚焦於「最高級」，並透過例句進行解說。

什麼是最高級？
最高級指的是將三個以上的對象進行比較，選出【哪一個】【在哪個方面】是第一名。
例如：
．John is the smartest boy in his school.
（John 是學校裡最聰明的男孩。）
⇒與學校裡所有學生相比，【John】在【聰明】這方面是第一名。
．Sarah is the most beautiful girl in the town.
（Sarah 是這個鎮上最美麗的女孩。）
⇒與鎮上所有人相比，【Sarah】在【美麗】這方面是第一名。
這就是所謂的「最高級」。
首先，讓我們來看看最高級的句型結構。
最高級的基本形式是：
【the】 +【形容詞／副詞 + est】 或是 【the】 +【most】 +【 形容詞／副詞】。
在最高級中，必定會加上「the」，並在形容詞或副詞後方加上「est」。
有時也會使用「most」，此時形容詞或副詞就不會加上 「est」。
由此可見，它的結構並不複雜。讓我們看看剛才的第一個例句。
John is the smartest boy in his school.
（John 是他學校裡最聰明的男孩。）
它的原始句型是：
John is a smart boy.
（John 是個聰明的男孩。）
首先，將 smart 變成最高級的形式（smartest）。
而「學校裡最聰明的人」只有一個，所以在 smartest 的前面加上定冠詞 the，而不是不定冠詞 a。
這樣就形成了 the smartest boy 這個片語。
最後，加上【誰】【在哪個方面】的資訊，
John is the smartest boy in his school.
這個句子就完成了。
順帶一提，剛才舉的例句是用「in ～」來表示比較對象，但在最高級的句子中，比較範圍或對象除了用【in + 名詞】以外，也可以用【of + 名詞】來表示。
in 用於像 in the school 這樣，比較對象包含在群體中的情況；而 of 則用於像 of the three 這樣，將比較對象並列進行比較的情況。
特別是當提到具體數字，例如說「幾個人之中最～」的時候，就會使用 of。
※ 如果想表達「排名第幾」，可以在形容詞／副詞前加上數字來表示，例如「the fifth smartest」、「the second tallest」。此時要使用「first / second / third」等序數。
確認形容詞與副詞的最高級變化形
① 在單字結尾加上「est」。
這是最基本的變化形，數量也最多，所以建議先記住 ②～⑤ 的規則變化與 ⑥ 的不規則變化，其餘全部都當作是加上「est」。

② 以「y」結尾的單字，將 y 改成 i 再加上 est。
像是 happy 或 angry 這類以「y」結尾的單字，會變成 happiest 或 angriest，而不是 happyest 或 angryest。這點很容易搞錯，要確實記住。

③ 以「e」結尾的單字，加上 st。
這個規則相對容易記。像是 base 或 blue 這類以「e」 結尾的單字，可以將最後的 e 視為 est 的一部分，變成 basest 或 bluest。

④ 重複最後一個字母。
這種情況在特別短的單字中很常見。變成過去式時也有類似的變化，一起記會比較輕鬆。

⑤ 在單字前面加上「most」。
這與 ④ 相反，通常用於較長的單字。雖然有些例外，但可以記住包含三個以上母音的單字通常會使用 most。

⑥ 不規則變化的模式。
這個模式只能靠死記了。有些單字如 best 或 worst，一個字就代表多個形容詞的最高級。這部分容易混淆，但希望大家能確實記住。
