「先試看看」的英語表達

當我們想鼓勵別人，或激勵自己時，日常生活中經常使用這樣一句話：「姑且先試看看吧！」

在英語中，我們可能馬上就會想到Let’s try it.。事實上，日常英語會話和商務場合中也會使用其他短語。

Let’s give it a try.

give it a try 與 try it 相同，代表「嘗試」「試試看」。

它用於鼓勵那些，對以前從未經歷過的事情感到焦慮的人「先試看看吧！」

它不像 Try it 那麼直接，也不像 Why don’t try it? 那樣迂迴。

A： I don’t drink.
B： Oh! You should give it a try.
A： 我不喝酒。
B： 喔！你應該試看看。

A： I don’t think I’d be good enough.
B： You don’t know until you give it a try, do you?
A： 我覺得我還不夠好。
B： 不試看看怎麼知道？

Why don’t you 和 Give it a try一起使用，也能成為間接表達。

您也可以將目標物替換為it。

Give it a shot 與 give it a try 有相同的意思與用法。不同的是，它有一種更隨興的感覺。

換句話說，Let’s give it a shot.代表「從未做過，不知道結果會是什麼，但先試看看」。

I’ve never tried skiing before, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

Let’s give it a go

說到 go，我們首先會想到的是動詞「去」，但它也跟「try」一樣，有名詞「嘗試」的意思。

give it a go的用法，與前面解說過的「give it a try」和「give it a shot」相同。不同之處在於，它是英式英語中常用的表達。

「go」代表「通過」、「開始」和「去」等意思，因此，當我們對至今為止尚未做過的事情，開始感到有點焦慮，可以表達「擺脫現在的不安，開始做吧」這樣的微妙差異。

A： I wish I could play the guitar…I wonder if it is too late to start learning it…
B： Why don’t you give it a go? You may find it easier than you thought!

dive head

dive head也代表「嘗試」。

正式來說，它是dive headfirst into…「頭朝下跳進～」的縮寫短語。

「your head goes down first, and the rest of your body follows afterward」
（你的頭先低下來，接著身體的其他部位也跟進）

「you become involved in it too quickly, without having time to think about it carefully」
（你太快陷入其中，沒有時間仔細思考）

換句話說，它包含「不顧一切」或「立即」嘗試的意思。

You’d dive head first into a hunt for that treasure.
你會一頭栽進尋寶的過程中。

I decided to just dive head-first into the job.
我決定冒險嘗試這份工作。

You worry about life after football because you give up everything to dive head-first into the sport with no guarantee you will be fully supported.

在中文裡，此句有「（別浪費時間）讓我們開始吧」，這種微妙差異。

我們經常看到老師在課堂上，或在研討會開始時說「Let’s dive (right) in」，接著就開始上課了。

jump right in

就像「dive right in」一樣，「jump right in」也代表「不浪費時間地嘗試」。

差別在於，dive right in 具有「頭朝下跳入=集中精力」，而jump right in 具有「腳先跳入=盡快做」的細微差別。

另外，jump right in 也有「打斷談話」的意思。

Feel free to jump right in and help us with the yard work.
請隨時加入幫忙我們院子裡的工作。
