動詞 amount
動詞 amount 表示「總數達到多少」或是「算下來有多少」。
當你要表達總數時，最常見的用法是後面加上 to，變成 amount to。如果主詞是第三人稱單數，而且是現在式，動詞記得要加 s 變成 amounts to。
舉例來說，如果你想說「這個專案的總費用是 5000 美元」，英文就可以說 The total cost of this project amounts to $5,000.
另外，amount to 還有一個很常見的延伸意思，就是「結果等於……」或「相當於……」。比如你想說「不回覆訊息就等於拒絕」，就可以用這個字。

名詞 amount 表示「不可數的量」或是「總金額」。

金額也可以用 amount。雖然我們會計算金錢，但英文中的 money 本身是不可數名詞，因此會以「總量」的概念來看待。
當你指特定的一筆總量時，前面會加 the，寫成 the amount of。如果想表達「大量的……」，前面可以加上形容詞，寫成 a large amount of。

number of 和 amount of 最大的差別，在於後面接的是可數名詞還是不可數名詞：
number of：……的數量，用於可數名詞
amount of：……的總量，用於不可數名詞
number of 用來計算算得出來的東西。像是 people（人）或 laptops（手提電腦），這些可以寫成複數形式的字，就是可數名詞。
例如，你想表達「使用者的數量」，就是 the number of users；「電腦的台數」就是 the number of laptops。
相對來說，amount of 用在液體、氣體、數據或是心理壓力這種無法一顆顆數出來的東西。像是 water（水）或 stress（壓力），都屬於不可數名詞。
例如，你想表達「壓力值」，就是 the amount of stress；「數據量」就是 the amount of data。
簡單記法：算得出個數用 number of，算不出個數用 amount of。

plenty of 表示「足夠且充裕的」，後面可以接可數名詞或不可數名詞。

a deal of
a deal of 常搭配 great 或 good，寫成 a great deal of，專門用在不可數名詞，表示「大量的……」。

a quantity of
a quantity of 通常用在比較正式或科學的場合，用來指「一定數量的……」，語氣比日常使用的 a lot of 正式一些，常見於商業、技術或書面語境。

a lot of 表示「很多、大量的」，是日常英文中非常常見的數量表達，可以搭配可數名詞或不可數名詞。

a few / a little
a few 和 a little 都表示「一些、少量的」，但搭配的名詞不同。a few 後面接可數名詞複數，a little 則接不可數名詞。
